There are several shapes and forms of scottish jackets.
One of the most common is the Argyll or Creil-jacket and of course the Prince Charlie.
But nowadays more people are interested in different shapes of jackets, different and connected to other era's of scottish history. Montrose Doublet, Culloden Jacket, Frontier Jacket, Jacobean Vests, Regulation Doublet and of course the Military Doublets and Guards Jackets.
The craftsmanship is clearly visible in the real jackets. The horsehair lining and fine materials distinguish the highland clothing from Eastern European and Chinese variations.
The materials the jackets are made from are hardly to be found outside the U.K. Most of the imitation jackets are made of wool/mixtures. Genuine jackets are made of 13oz. or 16oz. Barathea or Melton. With clear buttons that show the Scottish Royal Lion.
